MAC Cosmetics is like the Queen Bee in the world of beauty. Its complexion numbering/naming system is the standard way of comparing foundation colours, even if you don’t shop there. Its lipstick shades have gained not only cult following, but become so universally recognized that no one would ask what is “Ruby Woo” or “Teddy” lipliner.
Collaborations with celebs, designers have only proven time and time again, its pull to women of all age, and colours. Themes from tame to the wild and somewhat questionable (remember that Laundromat-inspired collection?) collections have won many hearts and many kisses of approvals from women worldwide. It helps that MAC has an extensive range of lipstick colour, and finishes. I’ve reviewed many in the past, and that’s barely scratching the surface.

MAC continues to be my go-to brand when it comes to long-lasting, pigmented pout that I can rely to get through the day. Given that neutral (mostly nude) lip shades are my favourite, I felt it was appropriate to share to give you some ideas for your next shopping trip. These four colours are my trusted, go-to neutral/nude shades that are especially flattering on NC25-30 skintone.

MAC Pure Zen – This cremesheen is described as frosted warm nude by MAC. At first, I was concerned that it would be too frosty and shiny a la ’90s glosses, but this pinky nude colour looks incredibly flattering on those with warmer skin tones. On my NC25-30 skintone, this works to lighten up my naturally pigmented lip colour to achieve that sophisticated nude lip that doesn’t wash me out or make me look sick. The creamsheen formula isn’t meant to be too pigmented so this lip colour actually looks good on a lot of people because it allows for the natural lip colour to shine through. Add a nude liner underneath, and this becomes my go-to nude lipstick to pair with smokey eyes.
MAC Kinda Sexy – I admit, I bought this because of the whole hoopla with Kylie Jenner’s lip job (did she have it, did she not?) debate. I wasn’t really looking for a brown lip colour that was so in back in the 90’s but I was looking for some new neutral/nude colours that would complement my colouring. The MAC artist who helped me was so helpful and recommended the matte formula called Kinda Sexy which is pretty much the exact same colour as my lip shade. Despite the matte formulation, it doesn’t sit drily or highlights any lines on the lips. This lip colour help me look polished, and naturally brightens the rest of my complexion while staying true to my natural lip colour. This is my go-to #GirlBoss shade for important meetings and presentations at work.
MAC Shy Girl – I think I’ve talked Shy Girl to death on the blog, but I definitely found “the one” with this colour. It is such a perfect match to what I was looking for: subtle neutral lip colour leans more coral nude but still adding that brightness to my complexion when wearing it. Again, the creamsheen formula makes it semi-sheer, but 2-3 layers of the lipstick will ensure it looks pigmented on the lips. This lipstick colour is one of those that you throw on when you are rushing out the door or the one that you quickly swipe on before going for an interview.
MAC Patisserie – The sheer formula is like MAC’s Kinda Sexy but a lot sheerer, making it my exact my lip but better colour. It doesn’t add too much on the lips, but that’s sometimes how you like things, right? It’s definitely for the days when you’re not really up for wearing too much lip colour, and just want a glossy finish to show that you made some effort. It’s a lovely neutral pink that adds a bit of oomph on your lips with a little bit of glitter to add some brightness on the skin.

Shy girl looks like such a pretty color, I haven’t gotten any new mac lipsticks in a while. Velvet Teddy is my favorite, I feel like I’ll run out of it soon!

Some great picks here, Patisserie is my favourite Mac shade and I’m actually wearing Shy Girl right now. Love the look of Kinda Sexy though, that might need to be the next lipstick on my list.

All MAC Viva Glam Lipsticks Shades Review, Swatches
These lipsticks come in classic MAC lipstick packaging. The A shell is metallic red in these lipsticks. Also, the MAC engraving on the cap is again red in colour. Overall, Really like the packaging of these lipsticks. I have travelled with MAC lipsticks all the time and I have a habit of keeping all my makeup in compact pouches. So far, MAC lipsticks never get messed up in the bag.
Formula, Texture
Well the lipsticks in this range have different formulas and finishes. Hence I will talk about them when I talk about the individual lipsticks. However I will say that all these lipsticks glide on very smoothly on the lips and are easy to apply. None of the shades tug on the lips. In fact I would suggest lining the lips before applying any dark coloured lipstick. This defines the margins of the lips well and the outcome is very crisp and sculpted looking lips.

MAC Viva Glam 1 Matte Lipstick Review
Viva glam I is one of the most gorgeous reds ever. MAC describes it as Intense brownish blue-red in a matte finish. Its a medium-deep red with warm and slightly brown undertones. Every single skin tone can flaunt this shade. The shade basically is my personal favourite from this entire range. Viva glam 1 has a comfortable matte finish. The texture is really smooth. In fact, this lipstick lasts well on me for 5 to 6 hours. Finally, as it fades, it leaves a beautiful reddish stain on the lips which stains the lips evenly.
MAC Viva Glam 2 Satin Lipstick Review
Viva Glam II is a pinky n*de shade. MAC describes it as Muted pink-beige with shimmer in satin finish. It has slightly warm undertones. This shade will suit fair to light skin tones. It has a satiny matte finish. The texture of the lipstick is really smooth and it never goes patchy.
MAC Viva Glam 3 Matte Lipstick Review
MAC describes it as Muted brownish-plum in a matte finish. I see it more as a red-plum shade. It has strong warm undertones. If you’re into deep plum shades, you’re going to love this. It has a comfortable matte finish. This shade again leaves an even stain on the lips after it fades. Therefore, my second favourite shade from this range.
MAC Viva Glam 4 Frost Lipstick Review
MAC describes Viva Glam IV as mid tone rose with gold pearl in a frost finish. I would describe the shade as a beautiful pinky-berry shade. In fact, it looks amazing on a variety of skin tones specially light to medium skin tones. This shade does not last as long as the rest of the shades but it does last pretty well for a frost finish lipstick. It feels very comfortable on the lips also, never lets the lips feel dry.
MAC Viva Glam 5 Lustre Lipstick Review
MAC says Viva Glam V is a Neutral pink with pearl in Lustre finish. The description is pretty perfect for the shade I feel. Also, this lipstick is more sheer and isn’t as pigmented as the matte shades from this range. If you’re someone who enjoys sheer finish lipsticks with a very natural shiny pink colour on the lips, you will surely love it. Overall, it wears well on the lips without making them feel dry.
MAC Viva Glam 6 Lustre Lipstick Review
Best Neutral Pink Lipstick
MAC describes Viva Glam VI as a Terracotta-plum with pearl in Lustre finish. For me this is a sheer yet deep terracotta shade which has a shiny lustre finish on the lips. It looks gorgeous on fair as well as medium skin tones. In fact, if you’re a fan of neutral everyday wear terracotta shade lipsticks, this is going to be your best friend. MAC lustre formula is known to have a sheer finish with a hydrating feel; therefore, this one is exactly that.
MAC Ariana Grande 2 Viva Glam Matte Lipstick Review
According to MAC, it is a fresh and cheeky matte orchid pink. This particular shade in the viva glam range is in fact a limited edition. Its a very bright magenta shade with lots of purple as well as pink undertones. Also, it has a satin finish. The packaging of this lipstick is slightly more amazing. The A shell actually has Ariana Grande’s signature on it and it just makes the packaging seem so much more authentic and personalised by Ariana. This lipstick is deeply pigmented therefore would be loved by ladies who enjoy a pop of colour on their lips. 🙂
Wearability, Staying Power
The lustre and satin finish formulas feel more comfortable on the lips as well as do not ever dry out the lips. However the matte shades do feel a little drying after 5 hours of wear. But if you do prep your lips well, it won’t be a problem. The matte lipsticks last for 5-6 hours properly before fading evenly. The satin lipsticks last about 4-5 hours. The lustre lipsticks last around 3 hours on the lips.
